8" X 5 3/8" Saggar fired with copper carbonate, steel wool, salt and saw dust.
This piece was requested to represent an Italian style of pottery. My interpretation was to create an almost Etruscan-like form and by adding a thick terra sigillata finish I was able to give the effect of an ancient piece.
As most classical forms of Italian pottery are very highly decorated with the use of majolica, I added an eroded band motif to the neck of the vessel to help push the imagery of an Italian piece.
